Letting go of Pride

Proverbs 11:2 – Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

So my husband and I have been going to a weekly family group and we are studying “Dream to Destiny”. A study based from Joseph in Genesis. Here Joseph goes through 10 test that God used to take Joseph from his dreams where his family bowed down to him to his destiny where he was the savior of his people in the days of famine as be became 2nd in command in Egypt.

As we are going through these test in our study, it’s opened my husband and my eyes to see where God is leading us in our life at this point. Also it helps us to realize how these tests God puts us through are learning experience, and it’s how we handle the test that lets God know if we are ready to move forward to the destiny He has for us, or if we are going to let our dreams fade away while sitting and watching those around us get up and push forward with the test God gives them towards their dreams.

So right now I feel God is putting my husband and myself through a bit of a Pride test. My husband and I have been slowly trying to pay down debt. With that said, one of the debts we owe on is our vehicle. My in-laws be God’s graces decided to bless us with a 2nd vehicle that is a bit older and shows off its war wounds…lol. Being that said, after Darren comes home with the vehicle last night and brings the idea of: “Since we owe less on our vehicle then its worth, maybe we should sell it? We would have $300 more per month to pay down on debt, and we could use some of the funds of the sale to clean up the older vehicle a bit.” Through my mind I have two thoughts going on (First thought) “That’s true” (my #’s side goes to our spreadsheet and calculates how that could help us) while my (Second thought) “This is a nightmare” (I am thinking I’ll have to park where no one can see me. I’ll have everyone thinking something wrong happened since we downsized our vehicle by 10 years…)

I know this wasn’t what my in-laws where thinking when they decided to gift us this vehicle. My in-laws thought we might enjoy having 2 vehicles that could hold all our family instead of just one. They didn’t think we would be going this direction.

My hard part is that I have been asking God in my prayers to bless us. So do I take this as a blessing in the step of we will have $6000 of debt wiped off and $300 per month to pay down for the remainder of our bills? Or do I take a chance and say. Yeah God was blessing us with a second car that can be my husband’s secondary vehicle when its raining so he doesn’t have to ride a motorcycle in the rain?

If God is testing us in the pride department, how do I handle this? How do I rip off the prideful band aid? I have been wounded from what other’s thought of my in my childhood. I don’t want these wounds to reappear. I want to be healed, I want to be accepted, and loved by my peers. I don’t want others to think something is wrong when that is not the case. We are actually trying to be in a better situation and not letting the lifestyle of the world we live in keep weighing us down with being part of the debt cycle. We want to be a family who make a difference and knows that God blesses those who use his blessings wisely.

Fearless

Aimee here – And what a weekend!

First I want to share with you a verse that God laid before me this morning:

“The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted” Proverbs 29:25

“Fearless” Defined: Bold, Brave Courageous. (Defender of freedom)

self-confidence

On Saturday I went to an event. The event was called “Champions Day” and it alive, and powerful. The leaders spoke truth and life to all who came to this event. I took home with me so much more strength then I came in with. (Now I want you to know that I didn’t come in being fearful, and I didn’t feel like I was lacking,) because the leaders helped by sharing love and showed how through self-growth we find securities while guiding ways to push our limits so that we can grow. If we don’t grow ourselves how can we help others grow? Let’s say someone has a feeling they are called to be a leader, yet they have never led anything in their life. Do you think they could go and stand up and lead others from day one? …haha “NO” not usually. All though, there may be few cases where that may be true.

Some Highlights I gleamed from “Champions Day”

Four Stages of Personal Growth – By Byron Gega

  1. Directed (shown how to do a task by the mentors and leaders who came before you)
  2. Coached (working through things with your mentors and leaders to produce movement)
  3. Consulting (sharing, and guiding others while still working with your mentors and leaders)
  4. Delegating (You are directing, coaching, and consulting to help others follow you in the same footsteps)

For Personal Growth you share with others by:

  • Get consistent
  • Stay focused
  • speaking
  • Interacting
  • Getting and giving advice (never go it alone)

Words by JD & Shawna Danburg:

“When you keep going your income will keep growing”

“Get Boxing gloves on and Fight”

“The more you act, the more your fear goes away”

When “Champions Day” was over, I was empowered to share and be a blessing to others! I know that what I am here for is to help others see that other options are available, and that if they want to be part of the team we are building then lets link arms and we will make it happen!

One of my favorite thing I gleamed from at the event was how God pulled in something He was teaching me earlier this week, I have a whiteboard at home that my husband and I use to help keep us on track with our business and where we are going, and growing! Earlier this week I was watching a video on how to keep movement for growth and I had decided to re-do our white board. As I was writing down on the white board I had realized I was spelling out S.C.O.R.E (Spark, Connect, Obtain, Reach, Earn) The awesome thing at “Champions Day” was how many time they used the word SCORE (no acronym) but allowed a fulfillment of God saying you follow through this and you will grow to the levels you want to reach!

Another part of the weekend that God spoke to me was when my family and I went to the ape caves Sunday morning, which was wet, fun, and crazy.

When we reached the halfway point in the cave my 6 year old son had quite an experience and became overwhelmed, tired, scared and fearful. As a mom I knew this was because he was wanting to be held, he was wining, and was very clingy. I knew he was having fun in the cave till he realized we were going to have to go back the way we came in. The reason why he was having fun on the way in was because it was an adventure, and he was enjoying the company of the friends that came with us. I knew that since the point fear had then taken over and he was only thinking of the things that we putting him in the scary place. So I started singing to him. We walking ahead, a bit quicker than everyone else, and within about 15 min he was starting to come back to the mindset he had when we were going into the cave. Time started to be distant from his mind again, and before we knew it we found we were back to the entrance of the cave. It’s funny how one move into fear takes our eyes off of God we begin to find our self in fear, pride, and selfish ways. Nothing is happening quickly enough, and we want to find a way out yesterday. But when we put our trust back in HIM we find the peace only HE can bring and can keep moving forward!

This weekend just kept getting better because our family group started back with a new study this last Sunday night and this study is called “From Dream to Destiny”. I love how when we open our eyes and let God lead he shows the path. Our selfish ways are fearful and we find our path seems distant, narrow, and unknown (quite like my son in the ape caves). But when we put our trust in Him, the less we fear the path. The road widens, and we find our destiny is closer than we had thought.

Here are a few key points I took from the study

  • Pride kills relationships, so the only way to cut pride down is to dig up the root
  • The root of pride is insecurity. We dig up the root is by using God as our strength!
  • Our own confidence brings out the pride, so let’s dig up our confidence and give Jesus our insecurities, and take on God confidence.
    • Insecurities are fears that we know we have problems with when we go life alone, but by using God confidence we are secure through the love HE has for us and that we are His sons and daughters. Just remind our memories show us of where we came from, but it’s through God that we know where we are going. As long as He is our Guide we will never have that bad root again. It’s only when we turn from His confidence that we find ourselves needing to dig up the pride root again.

I love how God has used this whole weekend to be many teaching moments for me, I hope you find these encouraging for what you may be going through. If you have anything that needs prayers for. Please don’t hesitate to share! We are here to lift each other up in love!

Gift from Above!

Death has no sting
Death has no sting

Today as I take in the true meaning of Christ’s risen from the grave.   I am in complete peace and awe.  My family and I choose not to partake in the egg hunts, the bunny, and inhaling of chocolate that would give a “Chocolate Coma”…lol.  For us we have music playing around the house that uplifts Jesus, thanking Him for his saving grace and the blood He shed and died for us. The sins we make in the fleshly bodies were crucified with Christ!  As I contemplate my thoughts on this Easter Sunday, I remember that I am blessed and glorifying God on this Holy day! If it wasn’t for Jesus choosing to be my savior, I would have been lost. I wouldn’t have the life I live today.
Ask yourself what Easter means to you?

Thank you Jesus for coming and dying, Thank you God for allowing your son to bare his life for us, Thank you Holy Spirit for filling us to this day with Love!

“Forever” By Brian Johnson & Kari Job

1 Corinthians 15: 54b-58 (NLT)
Death is swallowed up in victory.                                                                             O death, where is your victory?                                                                                 O death, where is your sting?”
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.  But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.  So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless

His Splendor

Today was a crazy normal day in the Lockwood household.  Getting up with the Kids and taking care of their every day needs.

( We can look at what we have been given each day in two ways. )

1 – Captivating moments – Looking for the little moments of splendor God grants us each day!

2 –  Mundane & Redundant – seeming that each day is repetitive with no excitement.

Its always a bit crazy for me with getting my day started.  My children seem to always have so many needs that need to be met. Not even giving me time to have a potty break before giving them what they need for their morning start.  I find that when I start my day before rolling out of bed, to just ask God to grant me patience, a filling of gratitude, and for me to show love to my children. Guides my day with a refreshing start.  Now I want you to know that some days,  this does not happen, and my children would tell you the proof of how mommy was having a so called bad day.  But with seeing how much greater my day’s seem to be filled with me asking for God’s guidance, patience, and Love. I have fewer and fewer days with me forgetting to roll out of bed before starting my day off with God first.

(A little about God!)

The amazing thing about God is that he waits.  All day and night He waits!  Have you ever gone to a friends home stood outside and just knocking quietly on the door once, waited their patently for the door to be opened? “NO”  First we all know that patience is not of human nature, secondly we also know that we are not quiet people.  We make ourselves known enough that even if the friend wasn’t expecting us they would know we were their.  That’s one different thing about God.  First He is quiet, and second he is patient.  He never leaves, He always waits…wow! Now imagine you do notice He knocked on the door and you know He is outside waiting for you to let him in.  You decide to just ignore Him hoping that he will leave.  “REALLY? REALLY?”amy poehler  Well sorry to say He isn’t leaving. He is just going to wait. Each day He is here just wanting you to open the door, so you may let him in. Get this, its so you can see your life through moments of splendor instead of moments of the mundane. I don’t know about you but for me I so don’t want the moments of mundane.

Today open your door ask God in, and let him give you the little moments of splendor:  They could be in the smile of your child,  the little glimpse of sun shine. Maybe even in the blooming flowers of spring. Whatever your day, God will always show through if you let Him!

Philippians 4:9 – Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice and the God of peace will be with you.

Challenge for today:  Look for the moment of splendor today, and if you feel like sharing please comment what God blessed you with today!

~ Love always, Your sister in Christ Aimee
